Environmental ScienceYour Exploration Begins HereIn Marylhurst University's Environmental Science program, you will gain a solid background in physics and chemistry, life science and earth science and mathematics, while incorporating communication and writing courses. Classes average 13 students and often incorporate in-the-field studies, in which you will encounter real environmental problems and work to find solutions. Working with an advisor, you can customize your bachelor's degree to focus on the fields of discovery you want to study. Career PathsAs a graduate with a concentration in Environmental Science, you can pursue a profession in environmental education and communication, natural resource management or environmental planning. Careers in environmental education and communication include interpretive park naturalist, environmental writer and environmental advocate. In addition, you may enter environmental law, community affairs, public information or environmental education in schools, colleges, museums and organizations. If you are considering an occupation in natural resource management, you can become a soil conservation specialist, research ecologist, ecosystem restoration expert or endangered species biologist. You might choose employment in fisheries, forest lands or land preservation management. Work in environmental planning includes being responsible for water and air quality and/or waste management and transportation. You may decide to participate in the management of land use and urban growth, parks and recreation or wetlands.
