Credit By ExaminationMarylhurst offers credit to students through the following testing programs:
These standardized tests are administered and scored in accordance with uniform guidelines. GENERAL Policies on credit by examination1. Marylhurst's minimum credit-granting score for standardized testing is equivalent to a letter grade of B. While the American Council on Education (ACE) recommends a minimum credit-granting score equivalent to a letter grade of C for all standardized tests, it is up to each institution to establish credit-granting and transfer policies reflective of its own educational philosophy and culture. It is our experience that Marylhurst students bring with them a level of experiential learning that fosters excellence, scholarship, and rigor in the classroom, where multiple means of assessing learning are available. Our expectations are no less for programs that provide students alternative ways to demonstrate their learning utilizing only one assessment tool, such as credit by examination. 2. A maximum of 45 quarter credits earned through credit by examination may be applied to a student's undergraduate degree program at Marylhurst University. 3. Students who do not meet Marylhurst's minimum passing score may retake an exam but must wait at least six months from the original test date. Scores on tests taken before the six-month waiting period will not be accepted. 4. Credit earned through testing will not be awarded if the content duplicates credit previously applied to a student's undergraduate degree program, and/or is more elementary than a course in which the student has already received credit. 5. Credit by examination is considered transfer credit and does not apply toward the residency requirement of 45 credits through Marylhurst. 6. Credit earned by students through examination programs prior to admission to Marylhurst may be transferred to Marylhurst through official transcripts from the respective testing agency. However, scores must meet Marylhurst's current minimum passing levels in order for credit to be accepted. 7. All scores for credit by examination must be received by the Admissions Office one term prior to graduation. Since it can take several weeks for official results to be sent from testing agencies, students must complete all credit by examination at least two terms prior to graduation. For example, students planning a June graduation must complete all testing during the preceding fall quarter. 8. Although students may take examinations prior to or after coming to Marylhurst, Marylhurst will not accept the credit until after admission as an undergraduate degree seeking student. After degree admission, students should consult with their academic advisor prior to taking any standardized tests to determine the usefulness of the credit in their degree program. The written permission of the academic advisor is required for any exams taken after degree admission. | |||||||
