ASSET Testing

All new Marylhurst undergraduate degree students must take math and writing assessment tests within their first two terms of enrollment. This helps students be as successful as possible in their college programs by directing them to writing and math classes appropriate to their skill levels.

Students enrolled in the Learning Assessment Workshop (LRN 150) will complete the math and writing assessment in class.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will ASSET tell me?

The scores will give you and your advisor a better idea of which writing and/or math class you should register for. With your ASSET scores, you have a much better chance of moving forward at your own pace.

How does ASSET affect entrance into Marylhurst University?

The score helps us to advise you into math and writing classes appropriate with your skills. However, there is no minimum score for admission; the test is for placement purposes only.

How does ASSET affect entrance into the PLA program?

Your ASSET writing score is one indicator used to determine your potential for succeeding in the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) program. During LRN 150, we also look at several writing samples. We use all the information you give us before making a decision about your writing strengths.
