Martha GiesB.A., Oregon College of Education PublicationsMartha Gies is an Oregon author whose work, both fiction and nonfiction, has been published widely over the last three decades in newspapers, magazines and literary quarterlies, including Orion, The Sun and Zyzzyva. Subjects/Courses/WorkshopsGies began her teaching career in 1990 at Marylhurst, where she taught short fiction for a decade. Gies has also taught creative writing for Portland State University, University of Portland, the graduate writing program at Lewis & Clark and several summer workshops. Since 2000, she has led the Traveler's Mind summer writing program in Veracruz. At Marylhurst, she currently teaches creative non-fiction. AwardsHer book Up All Night, a portrait of Portland, told through the stories of 23 people who work graveyard shift, was selected by both The Oregonian and the Statesman-Journal as one of the Ten Best Regional Books of 2004. TeachersMartha Gies studied fiction with Raymond Carver, and her memoir of Carver can be viewed online. | |||||||
