Event Wrap-Up
Clutter Utter
Approximately 30 guests attended the showing of the documentary, "Garbage! The Revolution Starts At Home" on February 16, 2010. This event was all about "garbage" with focused discussions surrounding issues of water, energy and the thought-provoking garbage experiment demonstrated in the documentary.
Jan Dabrowski, Co-Chair of the Marylhurst Green Team (now known as the Marylhurst University Sustainability Advisory Council) talked briefly about how Marylhurst is working towards sustainable business practices and gave insight on how mentoring can go full circle.
Special thanks to Amanda Baker, Jan Dabrowski, Lynn Brown and Kirsten Gauthier-Newbury for helping pull off the Alumni Mentor Programs first documentary night.
A Taste of Fall
Over 90 guests attended the free October 16, 2009, Taste of Fall Luncheon that was one of the many 2009 Marylhurst Homecoming Week events.
This was the biggest turn out for any AMP event! Delicious fall themed foods (the vegan butternut squash soup and cinnamon cake were a hit!) conversations, and reflecting on previous mentors and empowering oneself to become a mentor were the main components, but everyone's energy is what made the event a success!
Thank you again to EVERYONE who attended and helped plan the luncheon!
Summertime Picnic
On June 16, 2009, program participants and Marylhurst friends celebrated together on the Clark Commons Plaza with a delicious catered picnic dinner. Mary's Woods resident Wilton Jackson shared his insights on making a living during the Great Depression and explained why he's excited to be a mentor. Speed networking gave everyone an opportunity to meet new professional contacts and friends.
Spring Revel
Mentors, mentees and friends joined together on Saturday, April 4, 2009, for Spring Revel, a fun and informal morning of connecting with peers and professionals. All enjoyed the Bon Appetit breakfast buffet while participating in group mentoring activities designed to strengthen relationships and celebrate the spring season!
WinterFest
On January 15, 2009, the Alumni Mentor Program hosted its third event: WinterFest. Terra Merrill, board certified music therapist and faculty member, shared her insights from 8-plus years of studying positive mentoring dyads. Attendees also networked with peers and professionals through group mentoring, heard Peter Wallmark share his experiences as a mentor, and enjoyed hot apple cider and fruit tartlets.
Alumni Mentor Program Reception: Inspiring To Us All
On October 17, 2008, the Alumni Mentor Program hosted a reception as part of Marylhurst Homecoming Week. Guests discussed the meaning and importance of mentorship, won prizes for their participation in the Alumni Mentor Program Summer Challenge, celebrated their own mentorship stories during Speed Mentoring and enjoyed a lovely lunch buffet by Bon Appetit.
Alums Doyeun Kim (mentee) and John Erickson (mentor) each shared insights on their mentoring relationship. Fifty-five alums, students, faculty, staff and community members were in attendance. Participants later said that the event had a "friendly and sharing tone" and was "inspiring to us all."
Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who helped craft this event: Loretta Rowe, Karri Smith, Christine Cruver and Marcia Austin-Zacharias.
