Study Abroad
The Mi:Roma Cultural Immersion Design Studio program consists of two components academic residency in Rome and field trip excursions to historic and contemporary sites in and outside of The Eternal City.
The residency involves an extended 8-week stay in Rome, concluding with a 3-week follow-up on the Marylhurst campus. Students will take classes, taught by both Marylhurst and European faculty for Marylhurst University credit.
The residency is augmented by a complementary field trip component. Students will extensively explore Rome en situ and through analytical drawings as well as significant places both near Rome and throughout Italy.
Students are not required to know the Italian language to qualify for participating in the Rome Program; however, they are strongly advised to at least know rudimentary/conversational Italian before departing for Rome.
This foreign study program is intended for Interior Design majors; however, other students may apply on a space-available basis, with approval from both the student's advisor and from the program's director. Interested Marylhurst faculty and staff are strongly invited to contact Program Director Jeff Hartnett.
Planned Field Trips outside of Rome:
Hadrian's Villa & Tivoli
Ostia Antica
Cortona
Florence
Naples
Offered in partnership with the
University of Arkansas Rome Center for Architecture and Humanities.
