BA in ArtThe Bachelor of Arts degree program is ideal for students seeking a general knowledge of art for the purpose of working in art-related fields, art administration, art education or preparing to enter the Marylhurst MA in Art Therapy Counseling program. For the BA degree, 78 credits in art are required, including fundamental courses in design, drawing, digital imaging, photography and art history. All Art degree requirements have been designed by the professional artists who are members of our faculty so you can be sure that what you study is directly related to the world of contemporary practice outside the classroom. Professional ConnectionsYou'll also understand how to move into an art career. Orientation to the Visual Art Community introduces you to art dealers, art critics, museum curators and other art professionals who make up the regional art network, and Professional Practices provides you with the knowledge to present yourself (resume, portfolio), to manage art business (record keeping, doing your taxes), and to understand how to pursue life in the art world. InternshipsIf you are interested in art administration we can arrange work experience with Portland area art galleries or non-profit organizations. The Art GymBeyond the resources of the faculty and the studios, you'll have the opportunity to meet some of the most respected artists in the Pacific Northwest through the program of exhibitions in The Art Gym. The artists give public talks and often visit classes to discuss their careers with students. Since it was founded almost 30 years ago, The Art Gym has shown the works of more than 500 artists and published 50+ exhibition catalogs. Career PathsGraduates may pursue gallery representation or public commissions, become teachers, art consultants or museum employees. Students who choose specialized training in photography or computer applications may find employment in fields such as studio photography, advertising or computer-aided design. Graduates are also prepared to apply to master's degree programs in the visual arts, design, architecture, art education or art therapy counseling. | |||||||
