Master of Education

Minimum of 45 quarter credits

Students may choose from two pathways to the M.Ed.:

  • Combination of two of four education concentrations, or
  • Professional education concentration plus 21 to 24 electives

Pathway One

Reading Essentials (Pre-K-5 or Secondary)

Positive Classroom (Elementary or Secondary)
Culture & Diversity Considerations in Education
Adolescent Development
Teacher as Action Researcher
Professional Portfolio or Practicum in Education

Reading Endorsement Concentration (24 crs.)

Language & Language Development
Reading Essentials (Pre-K-5 or Secondary)
Reading Assessment
Foundations of Emergent & Early Reading
Practicum: Reading Endorsement
Choose 10 credits of electives from the following:
Reading Essentials for Pre-K-5 Learners
Reading Essentials for Secondary Learners
Content-Area Vocabulary Development
Writing & Literacy in the Content Area
Elementary Literature & Nonfiction
Adolescent/Adult Literature & Nonfiction
Leading for Literacy
Practical Diagnosis & Intervention for Struggling Readers

ESOL Endorsement Concentration (21-24 crs.)
Language & Language Development
Culturally Proficient Instruction (Elementary or Secondary)
ESOL Methods & Strategies (Elementary or Secondary)
Culture & Diversity Considerations in Education
Second Language Methodology
Leadership: ESOL Professional in the School & Community
Descriptive Linguistics & Exploration of English Language Form
