The Marylhurst MBA program is centered on the needs of adult learners and working professionals You'll be hard pressed to find another area program that combines quality curriculum and top-notch practitioner faculty with so many different ways to earn your degree – part-time or full-time, on campus once a week or online, at your own pace or in a structured system.
An MBA is an investment in yourself and your future. We take that investment seriously, making sure your business education integrates case studies and team projects to give you the practical, real-world skills and knowledge you need to reach your professional goals.
The best Marylhurst MBA program candidates are:
- Working professionals with at least five years' relevant experience who have strong leadership potential and intellectual curiosity

Yes, although it's important to work with your MBA adviser to make sure your transition is smooth.
Students can start the Marylhurst MBA and accelerated online MBA programs any term. The Saturday MBA offers fall admission only. In the MBA in Sustainable Business, online students can start any term; on-campus students can start fall or spring terms.
You may transfer up to 9 quarter credits from other schools, with permission from your MBA adviser.
Students in the general Marylhurst MBA program do not need to choose a concentration — the general management concentration is your default if you don't choose another option (about half of our students go this route). We actually encourage you to wait until you complete your core classes to choose a concentration. If you're an accelerated online student, though, you'll need to choose your concentration before you start classes due to the speed and intensity of the program.
If you're in the general Marylhurst MBA program, this is easy to do because you move through the program at your own pace. You can take from one to four classes any term, and take breaks whenever you wish. This is harder to do in the Saturday MBA or accelerated online programs, though, because those programs move you through classes in a specific order. You'll also want to make sure a change in your course load doesn't affect your financial aid eligibility, so please check with your MBA adviser before making changes to your schedule.
Yes, if you're in the general Marylhurst MBA program. The schedules in the Saturday and accelerated online programs are predetermined for you.
No, it will simply state the degree you have earned, not the format of your courses.
Our Office of Career Services & Internships can provide you with many kinds of assistance as you look for your next opportunity. Please feel free to check out the services offered by our career services office.
For each credit hour you should expect to spend one to three hours a week outside class. For example, taking 6 credit hours would require six to 18 hours of your time outside class each week, depending on your comfort level with the material.
If you take two courses per term or enroll in our Saturday MBA, you'll complete your MBA in about two years. Students in our accelerated online MBA programs complete their degrees in 18 months.
In our MBA program we average 13 students per class.
When you have completed your MBA, you will:
- Have deeper understanding of all aspects of business (from accounting to strategy) and how they all are interrelated
- Understand emerging business concepts, as well as information technology and management trends
- Be able to analyze domestic and global business environments through an array of lenses — economic, legal, cultural and ethical
- Know how to lead and make decisions ethically
- Be a stronger writer, presenter, critical thinker and collaborator
- Know how to apply and integrate what you've learned into a real-life business environment
The quality of your essay and your personal interview. Both must demonstrate you're a good fit with our value-based program. Both are an opportunity for us to get to know you and understand the journey that brought you to Marylhurst.
We are looking for:
- Integrity, sincerity, talent, leadership potential and an indication you understand and embrace Marylhurst's values and mission
- Strong writing skills
- Clarity and logical thinking
For international candidates, we also are looking for strong English language skills.
Your GMAT scores are very important, along with your scores on other required tests, such as the TOEFL for international applicants. But we also believe many other factors, such as work experience and community service or other forms of service, are equally reflective of your true potential and leadership abilities. That's why if you meet certain work experience and GPA requirements, we will waive the GMAT requirement.
For applicants with more than five years' work experience, your experience, essay, interview and letters of recommendation will be weighed more heavily than academic history in the decision about whether to admit you to the program. For applicants with less than five years' work experience, the admissions decision is based largely on academic achievement. We consider many factors, including GMAT scores. Your personal interview with us gives you the opportunity to emphasize your strengths as an MBA candidate and address any potential weaknesses.
While many MBA candidates are employed, others are transitioning between careers or exploring self-employment. All are welcome, as they bring diverse experience and perspectives to the classroom.
No prerequisites are required. Students with business and non-business undergraduate majors are equally encouraged to apply.
