Dr. Petra Kern, music therapy faculty, contributed a chapter to Frontiers in Autism Research, published in July 2014.
We have two visually and acoustically distinctive performance venues at Marylhurst: St. Anne's Chapel for large concerts, and Wiegand Recital Hall for recitals and intimate performances.
In 2012 we dedicated a new outdoor performance space with the completion of the Lajos Balogh Performance Shell.
St. Anne's features the stunning 45-stop Fred and Maybelle Clark Macdonald Pipe Organ by master builder George Bozeman. This magnificent instrument is modeled after the great French Romantic organs of the 19th century. The chapel also houses a restored vintage Mason and Hamlin concert grand piano.
Two Steinway grand pianos and a 10-rank Kilgen organ grace Wiegand Hall.
St. Anne's Chapel was built in 1968 with a donation from Julianne Roller, an instructor of Latin and German. Although she taught at Marylhurst only one year, she later said it was one of her best years in a lifetime of teaching. During a visit to Boys Town, Nebraska, Ms. Roller was so impressed with the chapel there and its generous benefactor, she dedicated her life savings to the construction of St. Anne's Chapel.
