Ruth Gundle is the publisher and editor of The Eighth Mountain Press which has published award-winning poetry, fiction and nonfiction since 1990. She co-founded and ran, along with Judith Barrington, the Flight of the Mind Writing Workshops on the McKenzie River from 1983 through 2000. She was the director of Soapstone, a writing retreat for women, from 1995 to 2010. In 1997, Literary Arts, Inc. honored her with the Stuart H. Holbrook Award for outstanding contributions to Oregon's literary life.
Gundle practiced public interest law in Portland from 1975 until 1985. She was an adjunct faculty member of the Northwestern School of Law from 1978 to 1994 which honored her with the Wold Award in 1983 for her "work on behalf of all women" and the Distinguished Professor Award by the student body in 1985.
