College-Level Examination Program
CLEP exams are 90-minute timed tests that students take on a computer at an authorized exam center. All credit earned through CLEP is lower division. Most of the exams are a multiple choice format, and students can learn their test results immediately. Students who do not achieve Marylhurst’s minimum passing CLEP score may retake the exam, but must wait at least three (3) months from the original test date.
See the Marylhurst Credit by Examination Transfer Guide for information regarding exam passing scores, credit and requirement fulfillment.
Although Marylhurst accepts credit for CLEP exams, it does not administer them. Registration for CLEP exams is done directly through the individual test centers. Contact each individual exam center for its current schedule and registration procedures. For a complete list of open exam centers, go to the CLEP website at clep.collegeboard.org. Local testing sites are:
- Portland State University – Portland
- Mt. Hood Community College – Gresham
- University of Phoenix – Hillsboro
- Chemeketa Community College – Salem
- Linn-Benton Community College – Albany
CLEP fees typically include an $80 exam fee payable to CLEP, and an administrative fee payable to the testing center (check with testing center to confirm costs).
An official score report must be sent by the examination agency directly to Marylhurst. Select this option through the examination software on the day of the exam. Marylhurst’s school code is 4480. Allow at least 3-4 weeks for receipt of the official score report.
All test scores are usually mailed to Marylhurst within four to five weeks of the test date. Credits for exams successfully completed will be recorded as transfer credit on students' Marylhurst transcripts.
There are a variety of ways to prepare for CLEP examinations and many are addressed in the CLEP Information for Candidates Bulletin as well as on online at clep.collegeboard.org.
