Workshops Responsive to Labor Market Challenges

Three career development workshops will be offered fall term at Marylhurst University from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Each workshop is $10; Marylhurst students/alumni free. To register, call Marylhurst’s Career Services office at 503.699.6271.

Marylhurst’s series of career workshops help individuals from across the metropolitan area gain skills that advance professional development. Each workshop allows participants to come face to face with a current topic and learn best practices.

Steve Joiner, career transitions program manager at Idealist.org, will address the nonprofit job market in the Portland metropolitan area. Currently, half of all hiring is in nonprofit organizations.

Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Melissa Mackie, college relations lead at Regence, and Catherine Jessup of the OHSU/AFSCME career development center, will lead a discussion about using a liberal arts degree in the emerging healthcare industry, the largest growing segment of the labor market.

Tuesday, December 1, 2009
Jan Foster, solutions provider for Performance Resources, will explore why it is important in the Portland metropolitan area to leverage "who you know" rather than "what you know" when networking your way to your next job.
