Marylhurst University in the Community

Marylhurst University’s roots are those of social activism and community service. This commitment continues today, through service to organizations including:

Marysville Elementary School

Marylhurst faculty and staff donate school supplies and volunteer time to Marysville, located in Southeast Portland. Marysville serves families below the poverty level; many speak English as a second language. Students from Marylhurst tutor Marysville students weekly throughout the school year.

Christie School

A residential treatment center for severely emotionally disturbed children, The Christie School has a long association with Marylhurst, as a neighbor and prior affiliation with the Sisters of the Holy Names. Faculty and staff donate supplies for the residents. Past projects include volunteering for a day of gardening.

Oregon Food Bank

Every holiday season, Marylhurst places food barrels throughout the campus to collect for the Oregon Food Bank, an agency that distributes donated food to nonprofit hunger relief agencies in the state of Oregon.

Good Neighbor Shelter

Sponsored by students in the the Business & Leadership program, the annual Secret Santa Project provides gifts and supplies for families at Tigard’s Good Neighbor Shelter, one of only two shelters in Washington County that keeps families together.
