Artist Uses Salvaged Materials
in her Work

Excerpt from an article by Karla Farr on OregonLive.com, July 9, 2009.

Antonia Lindsey calls herself a reUse artist because her art incorporates things that would otherwise be thrown out, such as broken jewelry, watch parts, scrap paper, titanium slag and salvaged glass. She even has a process for using cat fur from her three Persian cats, making it into a beautiful edelweiss.

Lindsey began selling her art at the age of 13 and later earned a fine arts from the University of Oregon and a masters in art therapy from Marylhurst College. She has been an art therapist for the past 25 years.

In 2000, she was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, a balance disorder.

"Though it's perhaps understandable when people respond with self-pity over losses, courage is much more productive and frankly, soothing," Lindsey said.

And soothing is exactly what her art depicts.
