More about accreditation

NWCCU defines accreditation as "a process of recognizing educational institutions for performance, integrity, and quality that entitles them to the confidence of the educational community and the public." Accreditation is voluntary and involves a rigorous process of self-study and peer evaluation based on NWCCU's five standards to ensure high quality.

Regional accrediting agencies provide a respected type of accreditation for colleges and universities. Their role as non-profit commissions is to validate the quality of academically oriented, degree-granting colleges and universities.

In addition to the university's regional accreditation, several Marylhurst departments and programs have specialized accreditation and approvals.

For more detailed information, read Marylhurst University's fall 2012 self-study accreditation report on mission, core themes, expectations, resources and capacity. You may also access our fall 2011 report to understand our original thoughts about the connection between core themes and institutional data.
